Evolution, is that why it is called a "Sun Fire"?
hali
thats nothing compared to the sun 8000 chassis :)
14kW or something like that
orc_orc

Anyone familiar with the centos/redhat initrd? I just extracted one and it seems to put init in /. Doesn't the kernel look for init in /bin/init by default?
I am trying to build a new initrd with a modified init script

Okay last question... I am currently on a server that uses SSH2 RSA public keys/private keys. I want to create a very limited user account that doesn't require the keys... how do i do that?
range
limitation is easier with .authorized_keys.
Why don't you want the account to have keys?
Bazy
me again guys :-) which package contains "rpmbuild" ?
so_
Bazy, yum provides rpmbuild
Bazy
so_ dude I whant to build rpms... rpmbuild -ta courier-authlib-0.55.tar.bz2... which package contains "rpmbuild" ? rpm-devel or something like that?
range
Bazy: yum provides rpmbuild
Bazy
range how?...
range
That's an executable command.
donavan
the scaryier question is why?
mnguyen
range: well a couple of our web designes use macromedia dreamweaver... and it doesn't support keys
so they can't update their website using the built-in sftp
soo I want to create accounts for them that don't rqeuire authorized_keys
range: any idea how to do it?
range
You can use normal password based accounts with ssh. But AFAICS you have to enable passwords for all accounts on that server then.
mnguyen
range: damn
range: that's not going to work... thanks
range
Or you can use key based accounts without passphrase.
But if Dreamweaver cannot work with keys at all ...

Why does Firefox's title bar always say "Deer Park"?
Anyone else see that, or did I just mess something up? heh
nuccad
Can anyone tell me if its possible to kickstart over the network without using PXE?
orc_orc
nuccad: certainly it is doable
nuccad
how?
Azers
does anyone know if there is a yum package for the perl modules 'MIME::parser' and 'Template' for centos 4?
orc_orc
perl-Templatekicks
nuccad
Azers: use CPAN

orc_orc
nuccad: several examples near: http://www.owlriver.com/tips/hands-off/
nuccad: no
nuccad
okay...thanks orc_orc. Reading now
orc_orc
Azers: getting line
s//link
Azers: the one in: ftp://ftp.owlriver.com/pub/mirror/ORC/bugzilla/ builds fine for centos-4
Azers
thanks

Does anyone know of a visual aide like vmware or vnc that can be set up on a linux server?
dan__t
nuccad, http://www.redhat.com/docs/manuals/enterprise/RHEL-4-Manual/sysadmin-guide/pt-install-info.html
a visual aide?
vAmped|Bruffellz
yes
dan__t
Like what, Xorg?
Phobia
ummm vmware, vnc.... Or you could just connect to X remotely.
nuccad
dan_t: gracias
Phobia
Why do you need visual for a server though?
vAmped|Bruffellz
Because i suck at ssh
and
Phobia
hehe, good answer.
vAmped|Bruffellz
I need to be able to see the server program to see what fps its at.
nuccad
dan_t: I have been there before. What I would like to do is set the ip address at the ks= line.
vAmped|Bruffellz
I can install it. But i need a visual aid for some stuff and cant get vnc installed or vmware
Azers
rpm
Phobia
What is the problem with vnc install?
dan__t
nuccad, I use some extreme hackery to preform that
I grep /proc/cmdline for arguments, one of which is an IP address.
vAmped|Bruffellz
Oen is rpm and one is java.
dan__t
Then I create a temp file with network information in it, and %include that from my ks
vAmped|Bruffellz
The rpm list errors and the documention on it, doesnt fix the errors.
nuccad
hmmm......
Phobia
You should be able to get vnc using yum.
range
vAmped|Bruffellz: vnc is in centos base and can be installed with yum. Evolution gave you links to the documentation about two days ago.
dan__t
What is your goal, vAmped|Bruffellz?
vAmped|Bruffellz
Im installing a game server (css) for my clan
dan__t
so why do yoiu need any kind of GUI
Chris0r
can any1 please help with yum i tried updating but it failed now i get this error - http://pastebin.ca/85399
Phobia
hehe, look above dan__t, I tried that line already.
:)
dan__t
post yum.conf somewhere, Chris0r
vAmped|Bruffellz
to see the fps wich is isnt shown in winscp or putty
dan__t
Couldn't hurt, Phobia heh
Chris0r
where is that? dan__t
range
Chris0r: It shouldn't throw that error, but "yum" alone doesn't do anything.
dan__t
so you expect to run CS via vnc?
range
vAmped|Bruffellz: Then install vnc via yum.
dan__t
Chris0r, /etc/yum.conf, /etc/yum.conf.d/
vAmped|Bruffellz
No to look at what fps its running at via vnc.
ok
Chris0r
well it is range
:(
dan__t
as VNC requies X, this will be installed as a dependency
or, rather, a mother of them.
Chris0r. Post configs.
or, hrm. yum clean might work
if it's a damaged/whatever cache
Phobia
Hey vAmped|Bruffellz, I had assumed that fps was not at server level. It should be at client level.
vAmped|Bruffellz
Post configs? Im a linux first timer
Chris0r
am doing
dan__t
yum clean all
Phobia, I think you're correct.
IN fact, I don't see how you can be incorrect.
vAmped|Bruffellz
@ Phobia for css the server runs at a fps too
dan__t
show documentation showing this please
Phobia
vAmped|Bruffellz, even if that is the case, it isn't going to be based on video.
Chris0r
vAmped|Bruffellz
@ not to do with graphics but with bullet registry
dan__t
Chris0r, uncomment that exclude line and see if it works
Phobia
Ahhh, so it is just crunching numbers and assigning some random name to them. hehe
range
Then install vnc via yum. Stop discussing here and read the documentation.
dan__t
just running yum
don't throw any commands at it
vAmped|Bruffellz
Phobia I guess :P
Chris0r
[root@liberteh yum]# yum clean all
Traceback (most recent call last):
dan__t
Chris0r, comment out the exclude= line from yum.conf
vAmped|Bruffellz
@ Phobia the game is css
Chris0r
okay
vAmped|Bruffellz
Counter strike: source
Phobia
Yeah vAmped|Bruffellz, go ahead and install vnc using Yum, and call it good. :)
vAmped|Bruffellz
rger
Phobia
It should take care of your dependencies by default, and no errors should show up to haunt you.
Chris0r
dan__t the server admin is jining :) he will beable to do it better:P
dan__t
what
don't run yum anything
don't give yum any commands
that exclude= is probably there for a reason
I just suspect that it's not in a valid format
Chris0r
its a webserver with direct admin
range
Chris0r: Are ou running cpanel?
Ah.
direct admin.
Chris0r
Yea
range
Please go and bother them. Anything we tell you might break your direct admin setup.
Chris0r
lol...
range
They seem to have a reason *not* to use CentOS, but to push their own packages on it.
Chris0r
they use centos..
range
Chris0r: Really. That exlude line excludes an awful lot of stuff.
Chris0r
its the services aint it like main things
range
Chris0r: What does "uname -a" say?
Chris0r
but commented out its same
Liberty:)
What does "uname -a" say?
:p
Libertehh
let me check
[root@liberteh yum]# uname -a
Linux liberteh.org 2.6.9-34.0.1.ELsmp #1 SMP Wed May 24 08:14:29 CDT 2006 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux
vAmped|Bruffellz
Ok, im not the brightest crayon in the box, but can someone help me install vnc via yum. lol
range
At least that is a centos kernel.
Chris0r
any idea why the errors tho?
Libertehh
I tried to update yum
