I am attempting to find documentation on correct permissions setup to allow cdrecord to burn images to DVD as a non-console user. Does someone have a hint for me?
CentOS 4.3, btw.
orc_orc
honkzilla: look on google for 'suid' and sudo; either holds a path to the answer you eek
s//seek/
honkzilla
Hrm. Well... I'm not so sure. I put a suid root C wrapper around cdrecord, and it does not solve the problem.
http://lists.centos.org/pipermail/centos/2005-November/056532.html
orc_orc
honkzilla == "Bryan J. Smith" ?
honkzilla
I've also tried chmod u+x /usr/bin/cdrecord. This also does not solve the problem.
No.
Just googling around for clues...
sid
How can I make it so one user....is not able to see another users folder?
orc_orc
honkzilla: ahh -- we have not seen: The BJS in IRC before, and one had hope in that regard
honkzilla
sid: man chmod

orc_orc
honkzilla: sudo without password for running cdrecord, may finnesse the SELinux barriers you are seeing
honkzilla
orc_orc: it seems like the default permissions model for writing cd's allows console users to burn (with k3b, for example).
orc_orc
(Action) wanders over to test that theory
honkzilla
orc_orc: I'll try that.
orc_orc
(Action) thinks: who has a console with a cdburner in it, anyway? ;)
honkzilla
Although... my selinux is set to "permissive".
orc_orc
honkzilla: so is Evolution's sister
honkzilla
orc_orc: the sudo solution does, indeed, work. But...
Here's the tricky part: this has to run from within a script... you mentioned 'sudo without password'...
snowfaked
is there a way to change the behaviour when apache writes something to www-dir, it is owned by apache and then i can't remove it via ftp
although i own the dir, it denies access for the file where owner:group is www-data:www-data
orc_orc
honkzilla: yeah - it works -- syntax in a minute
honkzilla: RTFM on man sudo -- sudo is not perfect, etc;
honkzilla
(Action) reads
sudo is a pita. <_<
orc_orc
add to bottom of /etc/sudoers, this line, using visudo : ALL ALL = NOPASSWD: /usr/bin/cdrecord
honkzilla
That's what I was looking for. Thank you.
And... we have success. Thank you for your help orc_orc.
orc_orc
honkzilla: np
but, honkzilla: RTFM on man sudo -- sudo is not perfect, etc; and you did not take long enuf to see that it is not a magic and perfect bullet
honkzilla
I am familiar with sudo and its imperfections. I am not familiar with selinux, and didn't think of sudo as a way around the problem... nor did I know that it can be configured to no-password operation.
orc_orc
honkzilla: ... just making sure ....
honkzilla
In this case, sudo is a suitable solution for the problem.
I appreciate it.
diowork
anyone used a qlogic iscsi adaptor with centos before?
orc_orc
google clearly ways yse, and gives much usage information
s//yes/
microchp
google never could find my keys

orc_orc
microchp: but that was not the question ;)
microchp
orc_orc: and if they have it their way, they WILL know where my keys are
honkzilla
your keys are found. it's you, who are lost
orc_orc
(Action) thinks RFID at avery lamppost and ipv6 for in between
microchp
honkzilla: no secret there.
honkzilla
lol
microchp
orc_orc: it will be dark fiber between cities and wifi between the lamp posts.
orc_orc
microchp: it is called 'dark', after the dark arts, and not simply because it was not then in use ;)
microchp
orc_orc: I know they are only voices in my head, but they have some pretty good ideas.
yukstah
where do i enablre PHP in the httpd.conf?
dan__t
If you installed PHP via yum, as you should have, it will place a configuration file in /etc/httpd/conf.d/
donavan
yukstah: what is the output of rpm -q httpd php
you may paste all out put on oneline in here
yukstah
httpd-2.0.52-22.ent.centos4
php-5.0.4-5.centos4
donavan
ask Evolution
diowork
why would qlogic assume people would be running X on their servers
orc_orc
diowork: native ignorance?
microchp
diowork: same lame reasons as oracle likely.
donavan
diowork: why do you jump to the conclusion?
diowork
donavan because their sw for their iscsi hba's required X to run
dan__t
When I took my RHCE classes, I asked the instructor if it was now recommended to use X on a production server.
He said RedHat thinks so 100%, but he does not.
heh
orc_orc
dan__t: what was instructor's name
donavan
perhaps if you are at the console then X is required.
dan__t
John Smith
microchp
dan__t: if it was the mt view class, ill stop by and educate them. :-D
donavan
Close friend of Bob Jones?
dan__t
To protect said instructor, some names and characters' names may be changed through this conversation.
orc_orc
dan__t: bullsh*t walks
dan__t
No but he was a good guy, really quick.
mt view?
donavan
ssh -Y should be more than enough (plus a couple packages)
microchp

microchp
I would have understood if he said texas...
dan__t
i can't find my win2k iso
hmmm.
microchp
dan__t: its in the stack with the AOL disks
dan__t
haha.
I need it to emulate this PBX software.
er, I need to emulate win2k, to natively run the PBX software.
microchp
dan__t: I wont wine

yukstah

yukstah

opus_
hey guys
I got a huge ugly transaction error when doing yum
Transaction Check Error: file /usr/share/man/man1/asn1parse.1ssl.gz from install of openssl-0.9.7a-43.8 conflicts with file from package openssl-0.9.7a-43.8
so_
opus_, x86_64?
opus_
That error message doesn't seem to make sense, anyone know what I should do?
so_, yes
so_
z00dax, suggest that I convert strictly to x86_64 by doing... yum erase *.i386 *.i586 *.i686 ; echo "exclude=*.i386 *.i586 *.i686" >> /etc/yum.conf if you don't want to uninstall your x86 stuff just put the exclude in or experiment on the command line
opus_, ^^
opus_
ok
well, crap
this is a production box, I don't like that idea :)
can I just temporarly exclude i386?
so_
opus_, yes with command line options to yum

microchp
opus_: gd-devel I thought but maybe not
so_
I like to use yum list | grep <name> or yum search <name> or yum provides <name>
Evolution
gd-devel does.
[jperrin@insanity ~]$ rpm -qf /usr/lib/libgd.so
gd-devel-2.0.28-4.4E.1.i386
WORKSFORME-NOTABUG-CLOSED.
:-P
opus_
Ahhh
found it thanks!
LuvRedheads
